Update to Helipad Use Procedure

Effective 0200 on 18 January 2007 the Scott & White Memorial Hospital Emergency Department and Helipad will be moving to the new Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM). The CAM is the furthest south building of the main hospital complex. The Emergency Dept. is located on the southeast corner of the building.

There is a new 2 pad heliport southeast of the emergency department. The pad closest to the ED(the northwest pad) is pad #1, the pad further away from the ED (the southeast pad) is pad #2. The old helipad located south of the old ED will remain open to accommodate up to a forth aircraft if needed and will be referred to as pad #3. The old Helipad is also the only pad that will accommodate any aircraft larger than a Bk117. Larger aircraft such as a Bell 412, or an S-76 will be restricted to landing on pad #3.

The new pads are located along the "Ambulance Only" drive and are somewhat isolated from the general public, and therefore should have significantly less pedestrian traffic. There is a short perimeter fence approximately 10 feet off of the pad surface for pad security.

Communication with the ED, and Medcom will NOT change. Continue to use the existing phone numbers and radio frequencies for pad info as well as for patient reports.

There are high tension power lines that follow the south perimeter of the hospital campus that currently do not have obstacle lighting on them. Scott & White is in the process of working with TXU energy to fix this. The lines themselves are marked with power line markers.

Stat Air is taking aerial photographs and has graciously agreed to forward them with this update.
